What are BOOBS Sling & pram walks?

Free to attend and led by volunteer walk leaders, our walks are for fitness and fun. An opportunity to meet new people, share experiences, and gain access to breastfeeding support by a trained volunteer breastfeeding peer supporter.

Our Pram & Babywearing walking routes are pram friendly, and baby-wearing (using slings/carriers) is welcomed. We also have a bespoke Sling Walk which is ideal for parents or carers looking to gain confidence and experience in babywearing and walking.

Taking place in a number of locations including Bury, Prestwich, Ramsbottom and Tottington, we endeavour to reach parents across the Bury borough providing easy access to breastfeeding support and the opportunity to make friends and enjoy getting out with their babies.

More locations will be included in the coming months, including areas of Salford. If you’d like to see a walk in your local area get in touch! Contact our Walk Lead, Betty-Ann

The walks are a supportive, safe space for parents and their babies, with a nurturing community feel and lots of laughing. If you would like to meet new parents, access breastfeeding support, enjoy getting out in the fresh air with your baby whilst building up your confidence and fitness, these walks may be the ideal activity for you.

The benefits shared with us about what mums have gained from our walks include friendly peer support, chatting to other mums going through the same things as them, getting out and socialising, increased confidence breastfeeding in public, increased physical fitness and mental wellbeing, and the positivity shared on the walks.

Whether your activity level feels like a 1 or a 5, our experienced volunteers are equipped and ready to welcome and support you along the way. Our statistics show that mums who come on our walks increase their confidence in breastfeeding, gain confidence in walking with their babies, find their fitness level improves, and develop friendships with fellow walkers.

If you have any questions about our walks please feel free to contact our Walk Lead who is more than happy to hear from you

Other things we do

Peer Support

We support mums through online and face-to-face peer support appointments with our trained volunteers who are all breastfeeding mums living in Salford or Bury.

BOOBS Approved

Our BOOBS Approved venues are local independent businesses, all creating a safe, friendly space for you to breastfeed in with no obligation to spend a penny.

Antenatal Classes

We run 3-week antenatal sessions focused specifically on breastfeeding. Aimed at parents-to-be who are 30+ weeks pregnant, these sessions are free to access and run throughout the year.

We run regular social and education events throughout the year including in World Breastfeeding Week in August. This year, we are also hosting fundraising events to raise money as a charity.

“BOOBS have been great in getting me and baby out, active and chatting. The support has been great, and seeing other mums has been invaluable!”

“I joined my first BOOBS Pram Walk when I was just 4 weeks post C-section as my first adventure and activity as a new parent. Betty-Ann the walk leader could not have been more welcoming and supportive and really helped in those first wobbly weeks of my breastfeeding journey. The information, shared experiences, exercise and socialising in the weeks that have followed have all been so valuable for my mental and physical health and I couldn’t recommend it more to any parents out there, especially in those early weeks”

“I really enjoy the BOOBS walks and look forward to them every week. Everyone is really friendly and shares tips and advice about breastfeeding and general motherhood”

“I think the group is vital for breastfeeding mums to meet, socialise and get out of the house with a baby. Mums from the group have also shared parenting advice and meet up to socialise and support each other outside of the organised walks”

“BOOBS is great, meet other mums, friendly knowledgeable breastfeeding peer supporters. Thank you!”
